II Course on Endoscopic Spine Surgery
Ibiza, 4 October 2025
On 3 and 4 October, Ibiza hosted the second international course on endoscopic spine surgery, an event that brought together surgeons from different countries.

The Neurosurgery Unit of the Policlínica Group organises this course, which combines basic training for beginners and advanced sessions on complex surgery, with the participation of leading figures such as Dr Ricardo Casal Grau, founder of the Spanish Society of Endoscopic Surgery.
‘We want Ibiza to be a meeting point, not only to learn the technique, but also to explore the limits of what can be done with endoscopy,’ says Dr. Pedro Llinás, head of the Neurosurgery Unit.

Spinal surgery is undergoing a quiet revolution. For decades, open approaches—with large incisions, muscle dissection, and long recoveries—were the only way to treat hernias, stenosis, or spinal tumours. Today, a growing number of medical teams around the world are adopting biportal endoscopic surgery, a minimally invasive technique that allows the spine to be operated on through two small incisions in the skin.
Its impact is profound: less post-operative pain, almost complete preservation of the musculature, intact vertebral stability and accelerated recovery that returns the patient to their daily life in a matter of days. Born in South Korea just over a decade ago, biportal surgery has spread like wildfire throughout Asia and Europe, and is now making a strong impact in Latin America.
The Neurosurgery Unit at Grupo Policlínica has established itself as a pioneer in Spain and an international benchmark. Not only because of the number of procedures performed—more than 800—but also because of surgical milestones that push the boundaries of what is possible.

Biportal endoscopy, which originated in Asia and has now spread across five continents, has found in Ibiza not only a place of application, but also a driving force for development and dissemination. ‘What is happening in South America reminds me a lot of what we experienced in Korea in 2015: an explosion of interest and training. I am convinced that in a few years it will be the technique of choice,’ concludes Llinás.
